How do squirrels find the nuts they hide?
By smelling! Squirrels feed on nuts, seeds, buds and flowers of trees. As winter approaches, squirrels collect nuts and other food and bury them in several locations for later use. They are able to locate food that they’ve hidden using their excellent sense of smell. They can also pick up information about fellow squirrels by smelling them.
Why are jellyfish named so?
Jellyfish are not fish but belong to a class of creatures called scyphozoa. The body of a jellyfish is made up of a jellylike substance called mesoglea. This jelly has a one-cell thick layer of skin around it. This is what gives jellyfish its name. Interestingly, the body of a jellyfish is mostly made up of water, around 90 percent!
Why do hummingbirds eat so much?
Because they fly a lot! A hummingbird is a very small bird with poorly developed feet and can barely walk. So it flies a lot and a great deal of its energy is spent in flying. It also has a high metabolism, i.e., it consumes calories quickly. So it must eat regularly to gain high energy to keep flying.
What is the difference between turtles and tortoises?
Their habitat! Turtles spend most of their life in water, whereas tortoises are land- dwellers. Turtles have webbed feet that help them swim, but tortoises have round and stumpy feet that are fit for walking on land. Though their shells look similar, turtles have a lighter shell and tortoises have a heavier one!
