How fast does a rocket need to travel to enter space?
If you are on a rocket and want to resist Earth’s gravitational pull and travel to another planet or moon, you need to go very fast, i.e., at a speed of at least 11 kilometres per second or about almost 40,000 kilometres per hour. Wouldn’t that speed be thrilling?
What gives our galaxy its milky appearance?
Its stars! Our galaxy appears as a dim glowing band arching across the night sky. This is where most stars are located which gives it that fuzzy milky appearance. This is why our galaxy is called the Milky Way Galaxy.
When does night fall in the middle of the day?
This happens during a solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth. The Moon casts a shadow on the Earth’s surface and blocks out the Sun’s light. So, for a few seconds or minutes, it appears as if the day has turned into night.
Why do some planets have rings?
It’s the pull and push effect! Sometimes when comets, moons and frozen rocks come too close to a planet, its gravitational force breaks them apart. The resulting broken pieces start revolving around the planet. The gravitational pull of the planet holds these pieces in place while they revolve. This eventually forms the ring system.
